"How do we address equity in large classrooms?"

I would like to share a few tips in response to this question.
Addressing equity in large classrooms isn’t about doing more—it’s about designing smarter.
In large classes, some voices naturally dominate while others disappear. To address equity, we must intentionally structure participation by using turn-and-talk protocols, assigning discussion roles, varying grouping strategies, and providing multiple ways for students to demonstrate understanding.
Design tasks with multiple entry points so all learners can access rigorous content. Pay attention to who speaks, who is affirmed, and whose ideas are extended. Equity in large classrooms is not accidental—it’s built through intentional routines that expand access, amplify diverse voices, and position every student as capable.
